“The arms trade has brought so much suffering, destruction, and pain to the human race! Let us consider how many children will not see the light of the future! The use of violence will never lead to peace.
War brings more war! Violence brings more violence!” cried Pope Francis as he denounced the arms trade. Behind each war lie economic interests. Business for a few comes at the cost of suffering and death for the world’s poorest. “When the rich make war, the poor are the ones who die”, wrote Jean-Paul Sartre.
Today there are more international laws regulating the banana trade than the arms trade. The five world powers with the right of veto in the UN (the USA, Russia, China, the UK, and France) are the main manufacturers of arms. Spain also participates in the ‘Champions League’ of this market of death. In 2011, it became the seventh biggest exporter of arms in the world, mostly to countries that do not have good human rights records. And two Spanish banks, Santander and BBVA, give loans to nuclear arms manufacturers. But these truths are silenced by the mainstream media. Let’s not forget that the first victim in a war is truth, and that lies are a fundamental arm in wartime propaganda.
The Second World War was the great salvation of the United States, helping it to resolve its economic, financial, and geopolitical problems and allowing it to impose its currency, the dollar (through the Gold-Standard), as the dominant currency. Today, the USA finds itself at a crossroads, with a giant debt and its currency in decline. The collapse of the dollar will only be delayed as long as it remains the currency of international oil transactions. As soon as a group of countries begins to trade in another currency, the US will go bankrupt.
US interference in Syria is only a deceptive strategy to destabilize the region and justify an offensive against Iran. The economic interests in play are massive. Locked away in the Mediterranean basin, and in Syria in particular, are massive large gas reserves. “THOU SHALT NOT KILL” is the cry that is in the consciousness of all humans. Only one type of war is just and necessary, and that is the war on lies, on poverty, and on ignorance.
